Cherwell’s use of the Pupil Premium is designed to help our students to achieve results in line with all students nationally and to close the in-school attainment gap. It is also designed to help our students develop the right values and character to aid their long term success.
Having reviewed the impact of our strategy over the past three years we will continue with approaches which have had clear and tangible impact. These include the provision of extra teaching staff in English and Maths along with targeted interventions in these subjects. We will also use learning mentors across the school to provide key academic and social support.
From Autumn 2016 we will also revise our strategy to put increasing resources into improving reading ages in Years 7 and 8. We see such a strategy as being crucial to longer term impact and it is one we have seen being used successfully by PP national awarding winning schools.
