Work Experience

As part of our commitment to offering as broad an experience as possible to our sixth form students, we have set aside the week beginning 10 June 2013 for work shadowing. This is designed to allow students to work in a field directly related to a career they are considering alongside someone working in that field at a professional level.

We can offer some help in selecting potential companies etc, but really do need the students to take the lead in organising the placement. To help students with their search of placements, Oxfordshire County Council Business and Skills have provided each student with a unique pin number to log in to their database which will enable them to be able to find contact details of companies that have helped our students with placements in the past.

To access the database please go to: http://oebp.learnaboutwork.net, and click on the link school/college student. Your son or daughter can then enter his or her unique pin number to access the system. If your son or daughter requires any additional help with this process, please ask him or her to see Mrs Surrage in the sixth form common room. We can, of course, accommodate some placements here at school. We will arrange the necessary safety and insurance checks and pay the administrative costs incurred for any placement in Oxfordshire, but additional costs for out of county placements may have to be met by you or the student.

Our work shadowing programme last year was very successful, with students gaining from very challenging placements and enriching experiences, which produced excellent references and enhanced UCAS forms.

We have attached a form for the work placement and hope that you will be able to support us and your son or daughter by helping to organise a placement. Please return the completed form to Mrs Surrage at school by 3 December 2012.

Yours sincerely
